Stack Info

Overview

Trunk8 will compress long excerpts of text and adds a read more link at the end. You decide how many lines of text are visible regardless of screen size before the visitor clicks your read more link.

Clicking the read more link expands the stack to reveal the text in its entirety. Perfect for situation where you'd like columns of unequal amounts of text to not interfere with your vertical layout.

You decide what the link to expand the text reads. It does not have to say "Read More".

Settings

In this section, we have provided a comprehensive list of available settings, and a full description of what each of the settings does for the stack.

Stacks Image 857
Visible lines

This is the maximum number of lines of text that can ever be seen in the stack before the visitor clicks the read more link. Screen size is irrelevant.

More text

This will be the text of the link the visitor will click at the end of the text to show the text in full.

Less text

This will be the text of the link shown at the end of the full text when the visitor has already clicked the read more link. Clicking this text link compresses the stack back to the set number of lines.

Edit Mode

We pay great attention to how we approach the editing interface of every stack, to ensure intuitive ease of use.

In edit mode Trunk8 could not be simpler, because it looks and behaves exactly like the default text stack that ships with the Stacks plugin. With one exception. Do not expect to be able to use HTML inside the stack. It purposely strips out any HTML it finds so not to break the entire page.

After purchase, you will be sent an email containing a download link for the stack.
Download the zip file from the link, and unzip it to reveal the stack inside.
You should now see the stack as a logo style icon.

Normal installation.

Double click the un-zipped stack file (the one that looks like a piece of lego).
This will launch Rapidweaver if it was not already running, to automatically install the stack.
Rapidweaver handles the install process from here. Guiding you through a couple of simple clicks to complete the installation.
Re-start Rapidweaver to ensure the installation is complete.
You will now see the new stack in the Stacks plugin library.

Installation where more than one version of Rapidweaver is installed.

Sometimes if there is more than one version of Rapidweaver installed on your system, the double click method launches the wrong version of Rapidweaver to install the stack. To ensure the it is installed into the version you want to install to, you can, instead of double clicking the stack, just drag and drop it onto the appropriate Rapidweaver app icon in your dock at the bottom of your screen.

Live Demo

A typical use case for the stack would be when you have texts in columns like this, and you'd like each column to remain the same height at any screen size. Using Trunk8 you define how many lines of text are visible, maintaining an even height layout in each of your columns, like this :

I am a Trunk8 stack, and I have been set to never display more than 3 lines of text at any screen size, until a visitor click my read more link. If you click my read more link I will show you all the text that I contain. You can close me back up when you are done, by simply clicking my close link.

If Trunk8 ever finds it does not have enough text inside to display the number of lines you asked it to, it will display the text in full and omit the read more link, until the screen size is such that the text will exceed the given number of lines.

Quick Fact

If you adjust the width of your browser window, you can mimic different screen width, and see how Trunk8 will continually adjust so it never shows more than the three lines of text we specified.
